Upcoming Events: Meet Our Agents – Medicare Annual Enrollment

Oct 10, 2022 | Uncategorized

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs from October 15th through December 7th. This is the time you need to review your current plan to be sure it is still the best fit for you.

We are now permitted to discuss available plan options for 2023, but no paperwork or applications should be completed or submitted until October 15th.

Supplement Plans

Supplement plans are also known as Medigap plans. These plans cover the gaps that Medicare does not cover, such as the copays and coinsurance for certain services. These plans are offered by private insurance carriers. When enrolled in a Supplement plan, Medicare will be billed first and the Supplement secondary.

Supplement plans do not include prescription drug coverage. You will need to purchase that separately, which is referred to as Part D. You will want to review your prescription drug plans each year because most plans will make adjustments to their deductibles, premiums, copays and drug formularies each year.

Medicare Advantage Plans

If you enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, that plan will take over your original Medicare. These plans work very similar to group plans enrolled in through an employer. You will need to pay attention as to whether or not it is an HMO or PPO. You will need to confirm that your doctors and hospitals are in network. Are your prescriptions on the plans drug formulary?

In addition to that, Medicare Advantage plans can offer additional benefits ranging from dental, vision, hearing, gym memberships and more.  Each plan is different, which is why you want to be sure you are reviewing with an agent you trust, one that will educate you properly on the plans’ details so you can make the best decision for yourself.

An insurance agent is not supposed to tell you what to purchase, but to provide you with the information you need and to educate you so you can make the best decision for yourself.

Additional Information About Medicare Open Enrollment

I had a few people call me today to tell me they were charged $30 by another individual just to review their options. We do not charge any fees. We are happy to review your plan options with you. That is our job, to educate you so you can make the best plan decision for yourself.

We get paid by the insurance companies if and when you sign up. So there is never anything out of pocket owed by you. However, we have a no pressure approach. So if we do not have a plan that best meets your needs or that you want, that’s okay. We will have enjoyed the great conversation with you and hopefully you’ll recommend us to a friend down the road. We have agents throughout Middle Georgia, including Dublin, Milledgeville, Macon and Warner Robins.
